The 2nd Maqom (Mugam) Art International Forum is taking place from June 27-30 in the Zaamin city of Jizzakh province, Uzbekistan, under the auspices of UNESCO and ICESCO. More than 400 guests from nearly 80 countries are attending the forum, which seeks to preserve, develop, and promote the rare examples of Uzbek national maqom art on an international scale, as well as enhance friendship and creative partnerships between peoples.

The opening ceremony of the 2nd Maqom Art International Forum will take place on June 27. Among the attendees will be Simona-Mirela Miculescu, Chairperson of the 42nd session of UNESCO; Salim Al-Malik, Director General of ICESCO; Sultan Raev, Secretary General of TURKSOY; A. Raimkulova, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation; Mehmet Süreyya Er, Chairman of TürkPA; Adil Karimli, Minister of Culture; Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Minister of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye; Moon Hyung Suk, Secretary-General of the Asia Region of the International Folklore Organization; and other officials and representatives of the diplomatic corps of foreign countries accredited in Uzbekistan. As part of the forum, an international scientific-practical conference titled "Development Perspectives of Maqom Art: Theoretical and Practical Foundations" will take place on June 28-29.

A performance competition will be held on June 28-29. An international jury, with experts from Azerbaijan, the USA, Egypt, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and India, will judge the performers in categories such as "Best Maqom Ensemble", "Best Instrumental Solo", and "Best Vocal Solo".
The organizing committee of the forum will award cash prizes, diplomas, and figurines to the winners. The Grand Prix prize is $15,000, while the 1st place winners in both solo and ensemble categories will receive $10,000, the 2nd place winners will receive $7,000, and the 3rd place award for solo and ensemble performers is $5,000.
To support and encourage the participants, awards will be presented in several categories including "Best Maqom Composer", "Best Soloist - Maqom Performer", "Best Musician - Maqom Performer", "Best Teacher in Maqom Art", "Best Maqom Promoter", and "Best Young Maqom Performer". Additionally, during the forum, various exhibitions featuring cultural examples from 14 regions of Uzbekistan will be held in the pavilions. The closing ceremony of the 2nd Maqom Art International Forum and the award ceremony for the winners will take place on June 30.

The first Maqom Art International Forum took place in Shahrisabz, Uzbekistan, from September 6-10, 2018, and the Mugham instrumental group representing our country secured the first place.

State Service and Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Sign Memorandum of UnderstandingThe Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Protection and Restoration of Historical and Cultural Monuments Located in the Territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan was signed between the State Service for Cultural Heritage Conservation, Development, and Rehabilitation under the Ministry of Culture and the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation. Our Composers' New Works Added to Music and Art School CurriculaStarting from the academic year 2024/2025, the curricula of music and art schools will include compositions of modern local composers. The representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the Union of Composers of Azerbaijan discussed this at their meeting. They agreed to continue the process from time to time and to include new compositions in the curricula after proper analysis. President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited Khudavang Monastery Complex in KalbajarOn September 2, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Khudavang Monastery Complex in the Kalbajar district. Children's Creativity Center Named After Kurmangazy in Fuzuli Welcomes First StudentsStarting from the academic year 2024/2025, the Children's Creativity Center named after Kurmangazy in Fuzuli will offer continuous education in various fields of art. As part of the “Great Return“ program, piano, accordion, tar, violin, and dance classes will be introduced in the new school year for children of residents who have returned to their homeland from Baku and other regions. Results of Teacher Recruitment Competition for Music and Art Schools AnnouncedThe final results of the teacher recruitment competition for music and art schools and centers under the Ministry of Culture have been announced. After the interviews, 237 candidates were successful, and 123 of them were selected to be appointed as teachers. Maestro Niyazi’s Memory Honored in the Alley of HonorAugust 20 was the 112th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous conductor and composer, People's Artist of Azerbaijan and the USSR, Hero of Socialist Labor, and receiver of state awards, Niyazi (Niyazi Tagızadeh-Hajibeyov; 1912–1984). On this occasion, Jahangir Salimkhanov, adviser to the Minister of Culture, employees from both the State Museum of Music Culture and the Niyazi’s House Museum operating under it, as well as notable cultural figures, gathered at the Alley of Honor to lay flowers at the maestro's grave. During the memorial ceremony, the significant contributions of the outstanding artist to the development of Azerbaijani musical culture were recognized. It was stated that Niyazi is considered a national treasure by the Azerbaijani people, and his name is always spoken of with great respect. Between May 6 and 31 of this year, applications for admission were registered through the single personal account “my.culture.az,“ and entrance examinations were conducted on-site in a centralized manner from June 20 to 30. Fuzuli Summer School Launches with an Opening CeremonyThe opening ceremony of the “Summer School in Fuzuli“ project took place on August 15 at the Children's Creative Center named after Kurmangazy in Fuzuli. National Cinema Day Celebrated with Ceremony The 126th anniversary of cinema in Azerbaijan was celebrated on August 2. This important date dates back to August 2, 1898, when the first films were publicly screened in Baku. According to the order signed by the national leader Heydar Aliyev on December 18, 2000, August 2 was declared the “National Cinema Day“ of Azerbaijan.
